Thirteen had set out on the mission. Now, a mere eighteen months later, they were down to a skeleton crew: just five of them left. 

Chen wasn’t unduly concerned. The mission, she knew, could still succeed with the depleted crew although the loss of the doctor - the only one with surgical experience - was a bit of a risk. He’d been the first to go. He’d become a bit of an issue.
